Since its release, Alan Wake 2 has been incredibly well received by critics and players, not just for its innovative, wholly original storytelling, but also for the quality and depth of its art direction.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Its story follows Alan Wake, a novelist who has been trapped in an alternate dimension known as the Dark Place for 13 years. He attempts to escape by writing a horror story involving FBI Special Agent Saga Anderson. The world is surreal and nightmarish.<strong> Our job was to help make sure that vibe burst from the screen.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">The challenge<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Remedy sought a reliable partner to create artwork that could be integrated seamlessly into the game\u2019s environments. These assets should complement the story, soak locations in eerie atmosphere, and deepen the player\u2019s connection to the world of Alan Wake 2. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">What we did<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Working closely with Remedy\u2019s creative team, we contributed a range of assets:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Vehicles: <\/strong>Abandoned cars, dump trucks, derailed trains, vacant fishing boats\u2014we designed vehicles that were important parts of the Alan Wake 2 story.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image alignfull size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/media.room8studio.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/04\/17160714\/3D-%E2%80%94-Alan-Wake-2-%E2%80%94-Remedy-%E2%80%94-Env-%E2%80%94-6-1024x576.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-33828\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Modules and structures:<\/strong> We made detailed structures\u2014wooden walkways, derelict storefronts, frayed furniture and much more\u2014that helped make the dream-like world feel real.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image alignfull size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/media.room8studio.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/04\/17160810\/3D-%E2%80%94-Alan-Wake-2-%E2%80%94-Remedy-%E2%80%94-Env-%E2%80%94-69-1024x576.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-33829\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Materials: <\/strong>We developed realistic textures and materials that gave the environment depth and consistency.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image alignfull size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/media.room8studio.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/04\/17160913\/3D-%E2%80%94-Alan-Wake-2-%E2%80%94-Remedy-%E2%80%94-Env-%E2%80%94-28-1024x576.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-33831\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Indoor and outdoor props: <\/strong>We made various props, from deckchairs to ticket booths to stacks of paper, that added character to the game\u2019s locations.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image alignfull size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/media.room8studio.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/04\/17160849\/3D-%E2%80%94-Alan-Wake-2-%E2%80%94-Remedy-%E2%80%94-Env-%E2%80%94-66-1024x576.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-33830\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Key contributions in action<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">We contributed artwork that was used in important story sequences. For instance, the scene with the derailed train, where the player navigates ominous dark spaces searching for clues, was brought to life using our work.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image alignfull size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/media.room8studio.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/04\/17160932\/3D-%E2%80%94-Alan-Wake-2-%E2%80%94-Remedy-%E2%80%94-Env-%E2%80%94-85-1024x576.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-33832\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">The outcome<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Both in and beyond gaming, Alan Wake 2 is a towering achievement in storytelling and art direction.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The game <strong>won 11 awards and was nominated for 19 more<\/strong>. Highlights include:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>WINNER Artistic Achievement, BAFTA Games Awards (2024)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>WINNER Outstanding Visual Effects in a Real-Time Project, Visual Effects Society Awards (2024)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>WINNER Outstanding Achievement in Art Direction, D.I.C.E.
